Clear history, improvements to Instagram features, and Facebook dating?! Here’s everything we took from Facebook’s F8 2018 conference (day one).
Possibly the highlight of the night for the social giant. Facebook announced they are launching a dating feature for users to find long-lasting relationships, and at the same time are taking on dating guru, Tinder.
But is this a good move on Facebook’s part? Over the past two months, Facebook has been coping with a monster data privacy scandal which saw Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook’s CEO) called before a court to defend Facebook’s data collecting methods.

But in the midst of all the controversy, FB is releasing one of it’s most socially driven projects in years, a dating app that will no doubt require a range of users private information to use effectively. So is this a good move for Facebook? Only time will tell.
Facebook announced ‘Clear History’, a new privacy feature that allows users to clear all the cookies and information from their account that helps advertisers understand and market to specific people, giving users the choice to erase all of their browsing data much like they can on their normal web browsers.
But Zuckerberg didn’t seem to have much to say about the feature. Is it only in its early stages due to the recent data collection controversy we mentioned earlier? Whatever the reason behind it, users will be happy to know that the control of their data is now in their hands after learning facebook had little control over this information a few months ago.
Facebook Messenger and Marketplace open up their doors to more of the world for you to connect and chat with. Why are they doing this? Facebook promises to make the world a smaller place and bring people closer together by knocking down language barriers and letting people talk to and understand each other no matter where in the world they are.
Even though the announcement only featured translations from Spanish to English, as this gets more steam and becomes a prominent feature in the marketplace, we see this feature opening up a range of opportunities to global businesses who want to make conversing and converting with their potential foreign customers even easier to achieve.
